Kat Now
Kat Now (she/her) is an educator and creative, dedicated to exploring the intersections of Embodied Mindfulness practices, social justice, community, and creativity. Kat's yoga practices are an extension of her values: building community, connecting with the awesomeness of nature, leveraging privilege to advocate for just change, and developing supportive spaces to freely express creativity. Kat creates gentle yoga classes that honor yogic traditions and are accessible for all levels, because she firmly believes that every body is a yoga body. She strives to empower her students to acknowledge their inner strength and agency regardless of experience level, age, or ability. This goal is informed by her years of work in the field of education advocating for policy reform to support marginalized students, with extensive experience working towards inclusion and equity for trans and nonbinary young people. This translates to her yoga, dance, and mindfulness classes as she prioritizes creating safer spaces to feel seen and supported so that all students can tend to their well-being.
Kat began to practice yoga and mindfulness in 1999, and her commitment to the exploration of different traditions and practices over the years has supported her through many different chapters of life. She completed her Kripalu yoga teacher training with Monique Schubert and Cristie Newhart. She also holds additional certifications in accessible & trauma-informed teaching from Love Your Brain Yoga and the Accessible Yoga School, restorative yoga, and JourneyDance. A classical musician by training, she sometimes infuses her physical yoga practice with chanting in Sanskrit or English. Kat guides other Embodied Mindfulness practices beyond yoga, including conscious dance and embodied singing. Kat thrives when her days are centered around dancing, writing, creating and appreciating art, yoga, spending as much time in nature as possible, connecting with her community, and celebrating her Polishness. Kat’s path is greatly influenced by the teachings of Ram Dass and Thich Nhat Hahn.
