Where Does it Hurt (Compassion Practices)
With Jacoby Ballard
Are you a social worker, teacher, healthcare provider, or activist? Have you been out in the streets, calling politicians, writing op-eds to contribute to justice and healing in these difficult political times? Are you angry or grieving at the multiple oppressions at work in the world? Do you struggle to talk to family and loved ones about the issues that you care about most, with a sense of grounding and compassion? Have you experience burnout?
Led by Jacoby Ballard, Yoga for Changemakers is an every-other-month recharge, re-vitalization workshop/community for changemakers. Whether you are on the streets, behind a desk, on the podium, in front of a classroom, all are welcome to come once, or make this a regular commitment.
Each session will have a theme to reflect on and work with, relevant to self-transformation and growth, and collective liberation, with the greater intention of turning and facing reality, engaging in deep relationship, healing, and loving up on each other.
Each workshop will include yogic postures, breath work, meditation, discussion, shared food, and self-reflection with the intention of connecting to purpose, practicing self- and collective-care, and refining our daily practices to ensure that we can keep on keeping on, continue to show up, dig deep, and make change.
As Jardana Peacock of the Liberation School in NC has said, "we can create the world we want right now, in how we care and show up for each other." Adrienne Marie Brown says in her book, Emergent Strategy, "If the goal was to increase the love, rather that winning or dominating a constant opponent, I think we could actually imagine liberation from constant oppression."
Show up with a friend or colleague, by yourself or with community, with a broken heart or with fullness spilling out. Bring your desire for change inside and out, and have some hours of retreat, reflection, and beloved community. SIGN UP ONLINE
Each session will run from 1:00-4:00pm.
$20-40 sliding scale per session
25% of all fees will be donated to a dynamic, imperfect, and powerful social justice organization!
